Tourists saw a deadly shark attack at a well-known resort in Egypt

Visitors on vacation at a well-known resort in Egypt experienced a terrifying experience that brought to mind a scene from the film Jaws. Yesterday, a vicious shark attack occurred in the Red Sea barely 30 metres from the shore close to the Dream Beach resort hotel in Hurghada. The resort personnel and other beachgoers were able to see the entire frightening episode take place.

Vladimir Popov, a 23-year-old Russian national living in Egypt, was the attack victim. Online videos shockingly documenting the occurrence show Popov being attacked and devoured by a tiger shark. While his father was close to the beach, he had been swimming with his girlfriend, who had been able to get away and find safety. Witnesses made fervent attempts to go to Popov and help, but they were unable to do it in time.

Viktor Voropaev, a Russian consul, verified Popov's unfortunate death as a result of the shark attack when speaking to the Russian state media outlet TASS. The cause of death has also been verified by Egyptian officials.

This terrible incident comes after two more shark attacks that happened in Hurghada in the same region of the Red Sea in July 2022, only a few days apart. Shark attacks have also previously been documented in the region in 2020 and 2018. Even though the majority of sharks are uninterested in people, there is always a little chance that we may have a deadly encounter anytime we enter the ocean.

A specialized crew has been sent in reaction to the event to capture the shark and perform tests. Authorities are trying to figure out what motivated the assault and if the shark involved is the same one from other attacks.

Swimming, snorkeling, and other water sports are prohibited in Egypt for a period of two days in order to protect the general populace. The region between Gouna, north of Hurghada, and Soma Bay, south of Hurghada, is covered by the prohibition, which is in place as of Friday, June 9. Yasmine Fouad, Egypt's Minister of Environment, has also asked a committee to look into the incident and instructed officials to prioritize beachgoers' safety above all else while taking all necessary precautions to prevent such assaults.
