Extraterrestrial Intervention: Did Aliens Prevent Nuclear Catastrophe?

A number of ex-NASA astronauts have claimed that help from beyond the stars prevented a global nuclear war. Could extraterrestrials be the heroes that saved Earth from nuclear holocaust? After returning from the Apollo 14 mission to the moon in 1971, famed astronaut Edgar Mitchell received recognition for his backing of many conspiracy theories.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror in 2016, Mitchell was forthright about his believe in aliens and the possibility that they had established contact with humanity. During the height of the Cold War, Mitchell made the startling claim that extraterrestrials were responsible for preventing a disastrous nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. Mitchell spent a lot of time delving into what goes on at New Mexico's White Sands missile test facility.

Mitchell claims that the aliens were interested in our military since White Sands was used to test atomic bombs. Mitchell learned via his contacts in the military and intelligence establishment that these people were striving to end war and establish world peace.

Mitchell's arguments relied heavily on the White Sands Missile Range, site of the first atomic bomb test in 1945. He said that personnel at the facility told him aliens had been destroying incoming missiles.

These astonishing claims, unsurprisingly, have garnered a lot of attention. According to noted UFO specialist Nigel Watson, who spoke with IFL Science, Mitchell's allegations are nothing more than imaginative supposition and elusive conjecture, and that finding the truth in this topic is like herding cats.

Also commenting on Mitchell's claims was Nick Pope, a former high-ranking officer in the British Defence Ministry who was in charge of studying UFOs. Despite Pope's admiration for Mitchell and pleasure at having met him, he noted that Mitchell's knowledge was mostly based on hearsay and not actual experience. There was some doubt about Mitchell's allegations, despite his access to government and military records, because he did not reveal his sources. It's worth noting that claims have previously been made that aliens neutralised nuclear weapons and showed interest in military bases.

Bob Jacobs, a retired US Air Force lieutenant who spoke out about an event that occurred during nuclear missile testing in the 1960s in an interview with Larry King in 2008, was another witness who corroborated Mitchell's accusations. Jacobs said that a massive, unknown object suddenly emerged in the sky, causing widespread panic and uncertainty among the United States military.

Paradigm Research Group's founder, Stephen Bassett, has long pushed for official investigations into the disclosure of what he calls the "truth" concerning alien participation. Bassett claims aliens have rendered human nuclear weapons ineffective with their sophisticated technology, but that this is more of a message than an actual threat. Reports from eyewitnesses attest to the aliens' competence in handling our nuclear weapons. Bassett claims these incidents are not hostile but rather an expression of the uselessness of such weaponry in the face of better technology from another world. He told the Daily Star that the enemy routinely disables American nuclear weapons not out of malice but to show that such weapons are ineffective against them. Why not just throw them away? Their message is just that.

Extraterrestrial interference in human affairs, especially in the domain of nuclear weapons, is a fascinating and intriguing topic, and the allegations put out by these former astronauts and witnesses provide an engaging and thought-provoking viewpoint on the topic. Even if you're still sceptical, these stories can provide you a glimpse into a place where science and the inexplicable meet, prompting you to think about the cosmic consequences of your actions.
